The wheel of the year is turning, and as we all breathe a collective sigh of relief at the downpours of welcome rain, our event team are already planning Streetopia 2018. This year’s event content is shaping up to the best spread of art, market stalls, performance – and of course, also Mutant Vehicles*. In case you weren’t aware of what of a Mutant is, here’s the lowdown: they’re mobile art, created by participants at AfrikaBurn for the purpose of… well, art’s a purpose, right? Streetopia’s a community event, and one at which you’re ewncouraged to actively participate – after all, it’s your event, where you are the action and the attraction. This is why the event presents an open invitation each year to the Obs and AfrikaBurn communities to participate by taking market stalls, exhibiting their art or performing music or dance. Great costumes
This year’s Streetopia will see some changes to the event layout – with the biggest changes taking place along Lower Main Road, as the event footprint has expanded in that area to respond to requests from business owners to be included, in order to allow them to actively participate.
